"No Leaf Clover"
No Leaf Clover is a song performed for the first time by Metallica during its S&M Concert ( which was nothing short of LEGENDARY, BTW )
S&M was the first time that a HardRock band got to play with a 109 piece Orchestra! Micheal Kamen (Musician) who has worked with artists like Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan etc. was pleased to compose music pieces for Metallica.
During the rehearsals for the concert, Lars Ulrich (Drummer) was clever and nosy enough to read James' lyrics diary and discovered this song which has been "sitting on the shelf" for about two years.. The song was taken into consideration and worked upon immediately.
NO LEAF CLOVER
By Metallica
And it feels right this time
On his crash course with the big time
Pay no mind to the distant thunder
New Day fills his head with wonder, boy
Says it feels right this time
Turned it 'round and found the right line
“Good day to be alive, sir
Good day to be alive,” he says
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
Don't it feels right like this
All the pieces fall to his wish
“Suck up for that quick reward, boy
Suck up for that quick reward,” they say
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
It's coming your way
It's coming your wayaaay oh yeah!
Here it comes
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be, yeah...
Then it comes to be, yeah...
Then it comes to be, yeah...
Then it comes to be, yeah...
Then it comes to be, yeah.
Then it comes to be, yeah...
Then it comes to be, yeah...
Then it comes to be, yeah!
Interpretation
The title, of course, plays with the "four leaf clover" belief of good luck. The story is of a guy who is starting out with whatever goal he has in mind, and getting good luck with it. The distant thunder (maybe a forewarning of something unfortunate?) is ignored because of how things seem like they can't go wrong, as each new day passes by with no problem. Things feel right, and they get turned around for the better advantage of the outcome -- when this happens it seems like more of a good day to be alive than usual.
The soothing light at the end of the tunnel is like what you see when your heading toward your goal... but then, it turns out to be a freight train, symbolizing something that is a problem, something that could crush your dreams.
Before you realize this, things still feel right, as all the pieces fall into place. Eventually you become a sucker for a quick reward, however, and may take things for advantage.
That train will come your way, if you're not careful about how you approach your dreams...
So this is it... My interpretation of the song..
No Leaf Clover is one of THE BEST Metallica songs i've ever heard. It has the perfect blend of awesome singing (he growls and shouts VERY LESS in this song) the drums-track is extremely energetic and keeps you taping your feet..and of course you cannot for THE INCREDIBLE ORCHESTRA..
The Song Is Sheer Perfection.
Dude, metallica rules! If they just screamed a bit less I'd appreciate it more though. :P
