Music, And Me.

Music Is a very pivotal part of my life. I listen to songs ALL the free moments in my day. It forms a very sane and calm part of my day. I always make it a point to either have my phone or MP3 player along with me wherever we go..

I'm part of a family which is an avid watcher of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa every weekend, ever since I remember running around in my house naked. I kept listening to them, without even realizing. I started out from early Bollywood songs, which had standard beats in each song.

Then, as I grew up, and started attending school in Global Indian International School Singapore ( which was a PARAMOUNT F*CK UP in my life ), just to "be cool" and accepted, I started listening to songs they used to ( Eminem, D12, Linkin Park etc. ) I never really understood the soul of any song, except Mockingbird by Eminem... That was when I was able to understand the true emotion of a song..

When I came in 10th Std. studies took over, and I had to stop listening to songs. :( :( :( :(

After that, when I had to shift to Mumbai for a year ( HEAVEN!! :p ) I started again. My cousins brought me back to it :D Old favs like Mockingbird, My Band, Like Toy Soldiers came back to me.. It was like I was hit by not a wave, but a Tsunami of nostalgia.

In Mumbai, I developed a very strong bond with the sound of the Electric Guitar :D The first new band I was introduced to is Iron Maiden, then Black Sabbath ( Courtesy of Raghav Venkatesh and Jalaj Soni ) and I went on to listen to one of the Best Bands this world has come up with. Metallica.

I fell in love with the heavy distorted sound of Metallica's guitars, Kirk Hammett's Guitar Solos, and James Hetfield's Vocals. Any Metallica song would immediately put a smile to my face, not like any other piece of music would.

However, as my liking towards Metallica increased, by liking towards Pop, RnB and the like decresed heavily. Pop sounds are very much synthsised. They all sound too digital. You cant emulate a Pop beat sound with just a physical instrument. You need electronics, which control most part of the song.

I felt music is the most pure type of entertainment there is, both, for the maker, and the listener. In the ancient times, us humans never had any means of making Pop, digitized or synthesised sounds. The only pure way of listening to music, is to hear it LIVE. Thats why, being in a concert, and listening to the studio-recorded version, are two very different things.

"Bands" like Black Eyed Peas, make me puke. When they perform live music, they dont just sing. They feel the need to wear flashy clothes and make pathetically stupid hairstyles and dance around like retards on drugs.

When Metallica first came to being, they had no way of recording what they played. So to get popular, they had to play love in clubs. They didnt feel the need to wear cool clothes. They didnt need the disco-lights. They didnt need anything, except their instruments (and alcohol :P but more on that later). I'd still consider BANDS (people who play their music LIVE) much much better than any other artist.

Today, in Bollywood, most of the songs, are recorded but digitally perfected. There is no bigger insult to Pure Music, than this.

Today, All bands who play live, are at least doing their part to keep REAL Pure Music alive. God Bless Them :D
